Prom series: Prom beauty essentials

On lasts post I gave you girls makeup and hair inspiration which hopefully helped but I forgot to mention some places to get your hair and makeup done.

Mac: If you buy at least $50 worth of products (thats a really good price for makeup; it can range anywhere from $50- $200), you can get a full face of makeup done.
  • Before going I recommend calling a day before to make sure theres at least 2 or three artist in the store incase the following day is very busy.
  • I will be honest and say that probably a few of you may not like getting your makeup done there because you don't know if the artist is heavy handed, which is one of the reasons people end up with cakey makeup or even get to see their work, they could be good with brows but not eyeshadow, you never know.

Sephora: They charge $50 as well for a 45 minute session, which i am guessing is enough for a full face of makeup. You need to call to schedule an appointment, I would call a day or two before anyways to be safe.
  • The same goes for sephora, you do not know what you'll get.
*Getting a job at either of these companies can be very difficult so, keep in mind that they got hired for a good reason. Just make sure to let them know you don't want too much makeup if you aren't comfortable with it.

Tip: Take pictures with you so the artist can know what look you are going for.

Ulta: This is the salon I go to get my hair cut, they are very professional and budget friendly. I have not gotten my hair styled there so I would know what to tell you girls, but its worth going to.  Right now they have a promotion (Link is here) for hair and makeup which is worth checking out if anyone is interested.

*$80 for both hair and makeup is a good deal, for my middle school promotion I went to a local hair salon and was charged $80 for JUST hair.

If you are located in Sonoma county here are some good places I found on Yelp:

So lets say you are ready to go, already have your makeup and hair done and have a few minutes to spare or maybe your prepping the night before prom, put together a beauty emergency kit- its a must!

Use a small to medium sized pouch
*Carry items you might need to touch up your makeup as well as a few toiletries

In my makeup bag pictured above I have:
  • A mirror- This is a must have for everyone, you can use it to quickly check your makeup on the way to prom or quickly take a peak during the dance to avoid waiting in line for the bathroom.
  • Tweezers: You never know when you might need this, maybe for plucking your eyebrows or taking a splinter out of your hand.
  • Eyeliner: It helps makeup your eyes more bright, awake and look larger.
  • Pressed powder and a mini kabuki brush: I highly encourage you girls to take some type of powder with you to touch up through the night, especially if you have oily skin. No one wants a shiny t-zone on prom night.
  • Lipstick: No makeup look is complete without lipstick! Unless you wear a lip stain, your lipstick is bound to come off a little while dinning or just by talking. Lip liner helps it stop from feathering but it can still come off while eating.
  • I have other products like a mini highlighter, eyebrow powder and chapstick- carry things you know you might need to reapply through the night.
  • Eyelash glue: For those of you wearing false eyelashes, you do not want to leave home without this! Incase your eyelashes start to feel like their coming off or to help a friend out.

Tip: If your going to buy fake lashes, buy them at either Target, Ulta or Walmart. Stores like CVS, Rite Aid and Sallys Beauty Supplies sell them at expensive prices.

****I have nothing against those stores just trying to help you save money:)

Prom series: Hair and makeup inspo + Tips & tricks

Now that prom season is here, I would like to share some tips and tricks to achieve prom ready makeup as well as give some ideas for you ladies.

Aside from the dress and shoes, make up and hair are an important for prom. Here are some pictures to give you ladies an idea of how to get your makeup done or do it yourself.

Neutral makeup- For those of you that are not used to wearing too much makeup or prefer something more simple yet classy- this is the look to go for.

  • Apply bb cream or light coverage foundation
  • Eyeliner: Theres many ways to wear eyeliner, you can do the classic cat eye, thin eyeliner or thick eyeliner
  • Bronzer/blush: to give your face structure and dimension- apply bronzer to give your face warmth and contour to make your face slimmer. Blush is applied on the apples of your cheeks to give color to your face
  • Lipstick: My favorite part. You can go with a neutral toned lipstick or stain or a nice bold lip paired with a lip liner.
Disclaimer- I do not own any of these pictures, credits to the original owners. All these pictures were either found on Pinterest or Google Images.

Bold makeup: For those of you that are comfortable and want a little more makeup applied, glam is the way to go. A flawless complexion, killer high light and contour, bold brows, lips and beautifully blended shadow with false eyelashes.

  • Eyebrows: Bold- filled in with similar product or this
  • Shadow: Shimmer, metallics and a lot of sparkle
  • Liner: Cat eye, winged out
  • Face: contoured, highlighted and nicely structured
  • Lips: Bold or neutral

*Tip: For high lighting and contouring using cream products gives a much more flawless look and will look much more natural and less cakey.

*Tip: To ensure that your lipstick stays on all night exfoliate with a lip scrub (honey, sugar and cinnamon mixture), line your lips with a similar lip color then apply the lipstick.

*A good lipstick and lip liner brand that is budget friendly is NYX these two products are under $6

Here are a few of my make favorites:

$3.99 at Target

$1.00 at Target

*Tip: If you don't want to wear falsies, curl your eye lashes with a spoon or before using an eyelash curler put it under a blow dryer on low heat for a few seconds then curl your lashes. Either of these methods gives long beautiful lashes.

$3.99 at Target

$2.99 at Target

Festival makeup must-haves + Coachella inspired makeup

Today i have some tips for anyone attending a certain dance at my school or just for every day use.

So lets say your going to a festival inspired dance or actual festival and need makeup inspiration, well first off I would recommend wearing a primer under your foundation. E.l.f. Cosmetics has a great mineral primer which you can find at Target for $6  (Click Link!)

Or if you happen to be near a Sephora pick up the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer it is $18, you can also get a free sample of it. But seriously try it, its AMAZING.

As for foundation I recommend a Matte Finish foundation to avoid looking "shiny" or "oily", my personal favorites are Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse foundation, Revlon Color Stay Whipped foundation and Loreal True Match foundation. All these can be found at Target and are UNDER $10.

I highly recommend the Revlon Colorstay Whipped foundation, it is long lasting, the foundation claims to stay on for 24 hours and has an amazing finish to the skin.

*To apply that foundation or any i recommend a wet sponge wedge or the e.l.f. powder brush ($3) to apply regular liquid foundation.

Although the foundation is matte finish and will not come off it is best to always set your makeup with a setting powder, my favorite powder is the Rimmel Stay Matte powder it is under $3 and also available at Target.

Another good matte finished product is the Maybelline Fit Me concealer, it comes in many colors and covers under eye circles. For highlighting I recommend the Maybelline Instant Age rewind concealer, it instantly brightens your eyes and makes you look more awake. They are both under $10.

Now that you have the right products to keep your face oil free, using a setting spray like the NYX Matte Finish setting spray can help lock in the makeup and get rid that cakey feeling. If you still want to look dewy or look like your glowing then I recommend the NYX Dewy Finish setting spray or Fix+ from MAC which retails for $22. The NYX setting sprays are under $10.

Also you cannot forget the glitter, rhinestones, and colorful paints.

Now on to my Coachella inspired makeup look...

*When applying a bright lipstick or any, moisturize and exfoliate with a lip scrub to avoid peeled lips. Then line your lips with a lip liner similar to your lip color, apply the lipstick then with a piece of toilet paper blot your lips and reapply the lipstick so it can stay on longer.

On my face:
  • Revlon Colorstay whipped foundation
  • Maybelline color tattoos in bronze and nude
  • Rimmel stay matte powder
  • Maybelline instant age rewind concealer
  • Too Faced Chocolate soleil bronzer
  • Tarte cheek stain in Flush
  •  For the white dots- Ben Nye Clown White makeup
On my eyes:
  • Sonia Kashuk Palette- orange transition shade
  •  Maybelline color tattoos
  • Half baked eye shadow from UD Naked Palette
  • Smog eyeshadow from UD Naked palette
  • chopper eyeshadow from UD Naked Palette
  • NYC Black Eyeliner
  • Nude eyeliner from Rimmel London
  • Anastasia beverly hills brow powder duo
On my lips:
  • MAC lipstick in Flat out fabulous (first picture)
  • Gerard cosmetics lipstick in Tequila Sunrise (second picture)

Here are other Coachella makeup looks to help you find inspiration:)

Don't be scared to experiment with your makeup for the dance or on a daily basis, being bold is better than being boring. Hope these tips helped! Good Luck.

Isabel:)
